The Franklin Fellows programme launched with first training!

Last Friday, we launched our first teacher-to-teacher mentoring programme, Franklin Fellows. The Franklin Fellows programme is an innovative teacher-to-teacher mentoring initiative, being run in partnership with and fully funded by the Fenland & East Cambridgeshire Opportunity Area during the 19/20 school year.

This programme sees teachers - called the ‘Franklin Fellows’ - become mentors for trainee teachers, Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs), and Recently Qualified Teachers (RQTs) in their schools. Through our programme, the Franklin Fellows will receive over 10 hours of training and provide at least 6 hours of mentoring during the 19/20 school year, and will be recognised at a year-end Celebration Ceremony.

Practical advice offered. Opportunities to share ideas with others and love the strength cards.”
— Franklin Fellow

Friday’s training saw 21 of the Franklin Fellows go through their first mentor training together, using interactive activities, reflection sessions, and role playing. These trained Franklin Fellows will now begin mentoring other teachers within their school setting, supported by a set of resources and two additional Booster training events throughout the year. Teachers from 10 schools participated, including: Burrough Green Primary School, Cromwell Community College, Ely College, Glebelands Primary Academy, Manea Community Primary School, St. Andrews Primary School, The Weatheralls Primary School, Thomas Eaton Primary Academy, Westwood Community Primary School, and Witchford Village College.

Spaces are still open for the Franklin Fellows programme, with December 31st 2019 being the deadline to apply (with the next mentor training opportunity scheduled for January!). All interested teachers are welcome to apply! The programme is fully funded; in other words, there is no cost to schools (schools are reimbursed teacher cover costs and Franklin Fellows have travel costs reimbursed to attend training).
